She was undoubtedly a shade, but I didn’t know her.
Eric Welborn isn’t completely human, but he isn’t the only shade in the small Midwest town of Hayworth. With one year left before his eighteenth birthday, Eric is destined to win a long-raging war for his kind. But then she happens. In the middle of the night, Eric meets a nameless shade, and she’s powerful—too powerful—and his beliefs are altered. The Dark has lied to him, and he’s determined to figure out exactly what lies were told, even if the secrets protect his survival.
He had gotten so close to me—and I couldn’t move—I couldn’t get away.
Jessica Taylor moves to Hayworth, and her only goal is to find more information on her deceased biological family. Her adoptive parents agree to help on one condition: perfect grades. And Jessica is distraught when she’s assigned as Eric’s class partner. He won’t help, let alone talk to her, but she’s determined to change him—even if it means revealing everything he’s strived to hide.
4 out of 5 stars
This book was a very interesting concept and I really liked it. The Dark were good and the Light were bad. This book was explained to be as paranormal romance and right away that genre kind of made me cringe. I hate when romance unnessesarily takes over the plot and surprisingly this story didn’t have this element. I like that they had a Shade life and then changed into their human self. I’m very glad that I had the opportunity to read this!
I really appreciated the character development in this story. I, like I said, love the human-Shade changing. Jessica starts out as a shy, but sassy, new girl also known as ‘the nameless Shade.’ She meets new people and gets new friends and then she meets Eric. Eric is the weird kid with no friends who’s mother committed suicide. There is nothing special about him, or so everyone thinks. *ooh suspenseful*
Who Would I Be?:
I would be Jessica because she was naïve at the beginning and was only the new girl, but then she finds herself and realizes that she’s more than she thought she once was. I think it would be cool to be a shade, although it would be difficult to not be able to have friends or relationships because you can never know who you can and cannot trust. I would still want to be able to have rocking-awesome powers, though.
Thanks again to Shannon A. Thompson for sending me this to review! It was a very enjoyable read and I cannot wait for the next one to come out!
