This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.
This afternoon, her planet was invaded.
The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.
But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.
Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.
5 out of 5 stars
Go read this book. Like right now.
I think this is the best book I’ve read in 2016. I’m so glad that I read this book when I did; I was feeling a reading slump about to happen and wow wow wow.
So this is a science fiction novel about a girl named Kady. She breaks up with her boyfriend Ezra the morning of her small planet getting attacked. She has to try and string things together with the help of her friend and her ex-boyfriend. Illuminae is told through files, documents, messages, and anything else you can think of. Holy geez.
“My group leader says it’s important to talk about my FEELINGS. I am stone-hearted and have none, of course.”
Same girl. I feel ya ;)
Okay so I don’t really know how to talk about this book because it was so different from anything that I’ve ever read before. If it’s saying anything, I read 261 pages of it today. It’s addictively amazing.
Gosh, hold it together.
This book is so interesting, and if you like science fiction I would HIGHLY recommend this book. There’s some romance, action, sci-fi. You name it, it’s in here.
So Kady has to try and shut down this system called AIDAN in order to save the love of her life. She’s a badass computer hacker who can reprogram electronics in 2 seconds. She is witty. She has pink hair. Oh my gosh she’s just so cool.
I don’t want to say too much because I think you should just go and read it. I can’t wait to read the second book. I’m asking for it for Christmas, so I might read it by the end of the year even. I AM SO EXCITED to see where the series takes the story. I also had lots of quotes that I loved, so I’ll just insert a bunch of them here…
“More than you deserve. You deserve every star in the galaxy laid out at your feet and a thousand diamonds in your hair. You deserve someone who’ll run with you as far and as fast as you want to. Holding your hand, not holding you back.”
“This must be why you spent all those walks kissing me in your head. It was practice for this moment. I’m imagining kissing you back, right now. I hear I’m pretty good.”
“I wondered at the futility of it. If it is the definition of insanity to repeat the same process and expect a different outcome, most of humanity must be insane.”
