Pointe Taken Newsletter (12)

Welcome, old and new readers of the blog. Happy Sunday. This has been a very crazy week because J-Term started, but we got late starts, early outs, and no school days because of weather. We didn’t have a full day of school last week at all. It was quite hectic. This week I participated in the Bout of Books 12.0 Readathon, and I will have a wrapup on that posted tomorrow evening. I finished Blog Inc. (completing the Author You’ve Never Read Before category on the 2015 Reading Challenge) and To Dance (Graphic Novel challenge) and am almost finished with The Power of Half. I plan on having the review of it up before the end of the week. I really love the message The Power of Half gives; it really makes me want to help in some way. I plan on finishing Clockwork Angel soon, then starting Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince after that. This week I will also be starting Just One Year by Gayle Forman because I get to buddy read it with one of my best friends who’s just gotten into reading. If you want to buddy read anything with me just comment down below! This week will be fairly simple and not chaotic like last week was, so that’ll be very nice. Happy almost halfway through January!

Pointe Taken Newsletter (11) + Bout of Books 12.0 Readathon TBR

Happy Sunday! This week has been a wonderful week for me in both reading and blogging. I finished The Calling and gave it 4 stars. I had been reading this since the 22nd of December, but I have no idea why it took me so long. The Calling completed one of the challenges in the 2015 Reading Challenge put on by Popsugar. I marked this book as a book set in a different country, because they travel everywhere, and most of the time it was not in the United States. I really enjoyed this book and am so excited for the next ones. Unfortunately the second book doesn’t even have a title… so yay for me. Cliffhangers will be the death of me, I swear. Anywho. I am currently reading Blog Inc. by Joy Deangdeelert Cho; it’s about how to create and keep up a successful blog. I plan on finishing Blog Inc. tonight and maybe continuing on with The Power of Half. I have officially blogged every single day of 2015. I mean it’s only the fourth, but still. It works for me. I have decided that scheduling posts will be perfect for me once school starts back up (aka tomorrow). Not super excited for school, but we start J-Term tomorrow, so that’s kind of exciting. I plan on continuing to post consistently as the year progresses. I will be posting my 2014 Year in Review that WordPress sent to bloggers this week, as well.

Bout of Books 12.0 Readathon TBR! This will my first time participating in a Bout of Books.

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 5th and runs through Sunday, January 11th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 12 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I knew about Bout of Books, but never really looked into it. I have no idea why I didn’t look into it, but whatever. Beside the point. I saw a TBR video on PeruseProject and decided, hey. Why not? My TBR will include…

  1. The Power of Half: One Family’s Decision to Stop Taking and Start Giving Back
  2. Clockwork Angel
  3. Little Women
  4. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Of course there is no possible way to finish all of these books in one week, but I will try and make get as far as I can into these. I just need to commit. I will most likely be putting a progress section on every post this week telling how everything is going, page number, etc. Join me in Bout of Books 12.0! What’s on your TBR for this week?

Hello, hello! Good evening, everyone. This week has been good for me, but I’ve realized that I probably will not make my GoodReads reading goal this year. I’m honestly okay with that, though. I love reading, but I think the reason I have been in such a slump is because I’ve been pressured to read because of this GoodReads goal. In 2015 I think I’m going to set my goal at 50 books, rather than 62, but I’m going to not stress about it. I have decided that I am going to do a 2015 Reading Challenge. It is a full year long challenge with a bunch of cool books to read.

2015 Reading Challenge

I found this challenge on Pinterest and am so excited, because I am going to really commit to this. I’ve never done anything like this, and I think it will be refreshing to take a step away from young adult. I love young adult, but I’ve found that almost all are the same. Dystopian, forbidden love, dire situations. But, branching out to adult, and non-fiction, fantasy. There are so many choices in books that are not YA. In the new year I will be trying to branch out.

This weekend I’ve been sick with the flu. So puking my guts out, basically. I have read quite a few pages today, but I don’t think I really took in the story because of the whole vomiting thing. I’m currently reading Endgame: The Calling – James Frey and am really really loving it. Oh my, let me tell ya. Sarah and Jago are perfect. Christopher just needs to stop, and An and Chiyoko are great. Holy goodness sakes. Sarah and Jago. Mm. Shipping them so hard. If you’ve read this book you understand.

Happy Sunday everyone! This week was a pretty good reading week for me. I finished two books, two short stories, and started another book. I finished The Girl in Between and LOVED it! I highly suggest it. Very interesting premise and story line. The characters were very lovable and beautifully broken. 5 out of 5 stars to The Girl in Between. I also finished Take Me Tomorrow and really liked that one as well! I read two of the short stories in Zombies vs. Unicorns for book club. We are slowly making our way through Zombies vs. Unicorns; every week we vote on which story we liked better, zombies or unicorns. Zombies is currently winning by a lot because there have been some amazing stories from Team Zombie. I also started Clockwork Angel which is very exciting for me! I love Cassandra Clare and the Mortal Instruments and the Shadowhunter world in general, so going to 1800’s England just makes it even better. I’ve decided that I don’t like NetGalley, so I won’t be using it anymore. It’s such a hassle to get it onto something I can actually read because before I was using my mom’s Kindle app on her iPad. I can’t really steal her iPad whenever I want, and I can’t read it on my computer. So, bummer. Whatever, though. Remember to put your name into my rafflecopter drawing for my 200 follower giveaway! There are some wonderful books up for grabs!

Happy Sunday! This week has been a really horrible reading week and I even “participated” in the 24 in 48 Readathon. I tried. I honestly did, but I was so busy this weekend. I had a lot going on so I read a total of…. 3 HOURS! Lol I failed so so badly. Besides the failed attempt at the Readathon, I set up a bullet journal. I am very excited about this because I used a journal that I had lying around my house. The purpose behind the bullet journal is to have to-do lists all in one place, basically a more efficient to-do list. I am always making to-do lists and can’t wait until I actually get the hang of it. You have different symbols for different tasks. All the information is found on the bullet journal website. If you’re interested just look up bullet journal setup on YouTube. I have an Erin Condren Life Planner for 2015 and cannot wait to use it, but this bullet journal will be carried in my purse instead of my backpack for school. I will transfer things like homework and school events to my bullet journal from my planner, and transfer necessary to-do lists to my planner. Seems a little redundant, but I’m still excited. I highly suggest looking up bullet journaling if you like having a set to-do list that you cross off. Other than my exciting paper goods, I have watched a lot of YouTube this week… mostly about planners and bullet journals. #SorryNotSorry. Anyway, I plan to finish The Book of Charlie soon, I will read tonight. I will start Take Me Tomorrow after that, and I am so excited to read it because Shannon A. Thompson is one of my all time favorite authors.

Hey hey and welcome to my weekly post about what I did this week, both bookish and non-bookish. This week was a really good reading time for me. Of course I did a lot of YouTube watching, but I did end up finishing my book club book, King Dork. I posted that review today and something pretty awesome happened. So, if you know me from Twitter you know that every time I publish a post it sends out a link in a tweet telling everyone to come and read it, well Frank Portman (the author of King Dork) favorited and retweeted my tweet about it! He also tweeted at me telling me that he was glad I enjoyed his novel! That honestly was the highlight of my day. On Saturday I participated in a fashion show that was happening at my local “mall.” I put quotations around the word mall because it is the worst mall with about 5 stores. Two of which are old lady stores and another is a sketchy laundromat, but there is a really expensive boutique with teen clothes. I got a dress that I modeled for 30% off, so that’s cool. After the fashion show deal I just went home and read, watched YouTube, and decorated my planner. I seriously had so much fun just chilling at home. I did get my Erin Condren Life Planner that I was freaking out about before (!!!!) There is a picture on my instagram. *instagram name: aubreybrowning* It’s beautiful and I’m seriously in love with it. I also decided to start writing in a journal. I highly suggest writing in a journal. Even though this week wasn’t extremely stressful I just felt more put together right before I went to sleep because I wrote down my thoughts on my day. Exciting, right? Wrong actually. I have a pretty boring life that is busy with activities; therefore, no actual social life with friends. KEWL. I don’t know if any of you remember, but I decided to start the book chain! A Discovery of Witches is the first book on the list! Comment if you’re interested in being part of my book chain :)

Happy Sunday! Today was a very good reading day for me! I think I’m finally on my way out of this couple-month-long reading slump. I just sat down and read and it really felt relaxing. Reading hasn’t felt relaxing to me in a while and I missed it. There will be a lot of posts up on the blog this week because I will be finishing A Discovery of Witches tomorrow, King Dork within the next week for book club, and Of Mice and Men for novel. On top of all of those posts I will be starting a Blogger Spotlight featuring new bloggers that I think need a bigger audience. I also got tagged in the Liebster Blog Award so that post will be up this week as well. I am trying to be more active as things have slowed down a bit. No more marching band (sad, but glad to be done for the season) and football is almost over. Slacking so much on posting lately! Going to change that :)
