Plot:

I started this book today… and finished it today. This was the perfect addition to the first in the series. I loved the first one and found that I loved this one even more. I still want to know what happens to Zac and Robb though. What the heck. Why did they just disappear? Anyway, this book was about Eric destroying Darthon and the journey it took to get there. Throughout 3/4 of the book Jessica didn’t even remember Eric and that was hard at first because I love them together and I want them to be together forever. They have to be together forever… right? Shannon, I forbid you from taking away some of my all-time favorite characters! The ending to this book was amazing and I loved it so so much!

Characters:

I love, love, love Eric and Jess. They are some of my all-time favorite characters from any book. The characters have been so well thought out and I have to come to the assumption that all Shannon’s characters will continue to be well thought out. Eric and Jessica are the perfect couple and Eric is yet another fictional crush.

Who Would I Be?:

I would be Jessica because I would get to have rocking-awesome powers and I would have Eric love me forever. Um, yes. I think Jessica’s powers are so cool and I would love to have purple eyes as well. She has purple eyes, seriously that would be so cool.

Series:

Minutes Before Sunset (The Timely Death Trilogy #1)

Death Before Daylight (The Timely Death Trilogy #3)

*Thank you so much Shannon for sending me this book to read! I love your work and look forward to the last installment to this series!!*

1. Tell us about yourself…

I’m a 22-year-old author with a lot of passion to share with the world. I was first published at 16, and I write in many genres. My next novel is expected to release this March, but my ultimate goal is to inspire others to follow their dreams. I also love coffee and cats.

2. When did you decide you wanted to be an author?

When I was very young, I suffered from night terrors and nightmares. I – quite frankly – could not separate my dreams from reality. That was when my mother taught me to turn them into stories in order to cope. Unfortunately, she passed away very suddenly when I was eleven, and I knew I wanted to spend my life doing what I love. I immediately pursued my goal of becoming a published author, and I haven’t stopped writing since.

3. What went through your mind when you realized your book was being published?

Honestly, excitement followed by dread. The hardest part for me as a writer happens when I finish a novel and/or get the published product in my hands – it’s the ending of an exciting journey that I have spent years on – but those emotions are quickly replaced with enthusiasm when I return to my desk and begin a new novel.

4. If your novel was made into a movie, who could you see playing the main characters?

If any of my novels were turned into movies, I would hope the director would consider an open-casting call. I want to be able to give opportunities to new actors and actresses pursuing their dreams, while also finding new people to fit into the roles.
5. What are your favorite things to do when you aren’t reading or writing?
I drink a lot of coffee, and I spend too much time playing (cuddling) with my cat, Bogart. Correction: I don’t think someone can spend too much time with their family (and, yes, pets are family.) Other than that, I love traveling whenever I can, and I also like movies and murder mysteries.
6. Are the experiences in the book some you’ve had yourself?
The Timely Death Trilogy is actually based off of a series of dreams that I had when I was in high school. A boy visited me in my sleep, and you can read more about it (as well as an actual journal excerpt) here: http://shannonathompson.com/2013/11/15/my-dream-goodreads-extras/
7. What book are you reading now?
My current read is “the impossible knife of memory” by Laurie Halse Anderson. It’s amazing, but I’m also a huge fan of Anderson’s.   Goodreads for The Impossible Knife of Memory
8. How did you come up with the title?
The Timely Death Trilogy came down to two things: time and subject. Each novel has a level of explanation within the world light vs. dark (dark being the good guys, light being the bad.)
For instance, Minutes Before Sunset (book 1) is focused on being in the Dark, and the shades turn at night, so the title is about the moment before entering the Dark, the minute of contemplation. Seconds Before Sunrise (book 1) is focused on being human. Since the shades are human during the day, this title happened because sunrise is the last moment before they turn. Death Before Daylight will be the ending, and it is focused on the Light, but that’s a mystery for now :]
9. Are there any authors who have caught your interest?
Many! I love reading, so my calendar is filled with upcoming releases, although City of Heavenly Fire is probably my number one.
*Aubrey Joy fangirling because of the love of City of Heavenly Fire*
10. Sneak peek of what you’re writing now?
Well, I’m technically done writing it, but Seconds Before Sunrise releases March 27, 2014. I am working on the edits of Death Before Daylight, and I’m also sneaking in new projects along the way. There just might be a new, science-fiction novel lingering in the near future.
Thank you so much for letting me review your novel Minutes before Sunset (The Timely Death Trilogy #1) it was an amazing read and I cannot wait for March 27 to get the next in the series! Thanks for the interview as well!

She was undoubtedly a shade, but I didn’t know her.

Eric Welborn isn’t completely human, but he isn’t the only shade in the small Midwest town of Hayworth. With one year left before his eighteenth birthday, Eric is destined to win a long-raging war for his kind. But then she happens. In the middle of the night, Eric meets a nameless shade, and she’s powerful—too powerful—and his beliefs are altered. The Dark has lied to him, and he’s determined to figure out exactly what lies were told, even if the secrets protect his survival.

He had gotten so close to me—and I couldn’t move—I couldn’t get away.

Jessica Taylor moves to Hayworth, and her only goal is to find more information on her deceased biological family. Her adoptive parents agree to help on one condition: perfect grades. And Jessica is distraught when she’s assigned as Eric’s class partner. He won’t help, let alone talk to her, but she’s determined to change him—even if it means revealing everything he’s strived to hide.

4 out of 5 stars

Plot:

This book was a very interesting concept and I really liked it. The Dark were good and the Light were bad. This book was explained to be as paranormal romance and right away that genre kind of made me cringe. I hate when romance unnessesarily takes over the plot and surprisingly this story didn’t have this element. I like that they had a Shade life and then changed into their human self. I’m very glad that I had the opportunity to read this!

Characters:

I really appreciated the character development in this story. I, like I said, love the human-Shade changing. Jessica starts out as a shy, but sassy, new girl also known as ‘the nameless Shade.’ She meets new people and gets new friends and then she meets Eric. Eric is the weird kid with no friends who’s mother committed suicide. There is nothing special about him, or so everyone thinks. *ooh suspenseful*

Who Would I Be?:

I would be Jessica because she was naïve at the beginning and was only the new girl, but then she finds herself and realizes that she’s more than she thought she once was. I think it would be cool to be a shade, although it would be difficult to not be able to have friends or relationships because you can never know who you can and cannot trust. I would still want to be able to have rocking-awesome powers, though.

Series:

Seconds Before Sunrise (The Timely Death Trilogy #2)

Death Before Daylight (The Timely Death Trilogy #3)

Thanks again to Shannon A. Thompson for sending me this to review! It was a very enjoyable read and I cannot wait for the next one to come out!

I got sent this book free for review from the wonderful Shannon A. Thompson. She asked if I would review this book and of course I said yes. I am really enjoying it so far. It’s very different from anything I’ve ever read, especially the part where the Dark is good and the Light is bad. I think the concept is very interesting to read about. I don’t really like two point-of-views, but looking past that, I think the main characters are really complimentary to eachother. There has already been so much character development throughout the story and I’m only 140 pages in. It isn’t what I expected in the fact that I thought there would be a lot of romance. When I hear about the genre of ‘romance’ I think that the whole story is going to be about a relationship and I kind of dread that.  I personally think that main characters should be able to be independent and meet their significant other later on that compliments them, but still lets them be and individual. I hate when it’s ‘name and name did this together. They came in together’ blah blah blah. I appreciate the individualism of these characters a lot. So far I’m really enjoying this read and I cannot wait to read the others that are coming out!

*pst. THE CITY OF HEAVENLY FIRE COVER IS BEAUTIFUL. It comes out the end of May and I cannot wait to read it. This is my favorite series and GAH IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL*
