It’s winter break at St. Vladimir’s, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy’s crawling with Guardians—including Rose’s hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if hand-to-hand combat with her mom wasn’t bad enough, Rose’s tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason’s got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa’s head while she’s making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy’s not taking any risks… This year, St. Vlad’s annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.

But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price…

Plot:

I love the Vampire Academy world Richelle Mead has created. It’s so different from anything I’ve ever read and I love the world. They live at the Vampire Academy boarding school where they learn to fight Strigoi, evil “dead” vampires. The guardians train to save the Moroi, pure blood vampires. There are the twelve royal families and they have the most protection. In this book there are Strigoi attacks at the beginning, so they go to an elite vampire ski resort and spend all of holiday at the resort. I loved the resort setting and this one was so good. I liked this one even more than Vampire Academy.

Characters:

Rose is one of my favorite characters because she’s so sassy and she always has witty remarks. I love the relationship between Rose and Dimitri. I love that Rose loves Dimitri so much and get get over him. Dimitri loves her too and it’s even better because it’s “forbidden”. Lissa and Christian are a cute couple but I don’t really like Christian’s attitude. It’s cool that he knows how to use his magic and I can’t wait to see them when they can all use their powers. Lissa is the Moroi that Rose protects and is also Rose’s best friend. I like Lissa more in this one because she isn’t depressed all the time, but because of the medication she is on, she can’t use her magic. Lissa is a really nice best friend character for Rose though. She lightens the mood because she’s kind of ditzy and Rose is always sarcastic or serious.

Who Would I Be?:

I would be Rose because I love how sassy she is. I love all her remarks that she comes up with and I really love everything about her. I would also love Dimitri to have a crush on me because he’s yet another book crush… *sigh*

Woah, Dere Wednesday (9)

This week I am reading Frostbite (Vampire Academy #2) – Richelle Mead. I love this series and am so glad that I picked this one up. Frostbite is better than Vampire Academy *review* because you already know the characters and the setting and you can focus on the plot changing and twisting. I really love Rose because she’s snarky and sassy, and Lissa is sweet but apparently has wonderful ideas. I am at the part where Lissa just gave her ideas about the Moroi fighting to some of the other Royals. I really enjoy this story and I love that it’s set at a ski resort. It’s great to read a wintery book while it’s cold and wintery outside because it feels like you could do some of the things they’re doing. I feel like I could go skiing and be at an awesome ski resort. :)

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger…

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

5 out of 5 stars

Plot:

I loved this idea of a story. I have never read a boarding school book before and I really enjoyed it. I love the characters and I’m so glad I finally picked up this book. It’s been on my shelf for quite a while and I am so glad I started this series. I hear the books keep getting better as the series goes on, which is hard to believe because this book was awesome. I liked because I knew what the timeline was. I love knowing exactly when things are happening and at what time. I realize this wasn’t a diary, but I like when it says, “A couple days later….” or “The next weekend…”

Characters:

I loved the characters in this book. They just compliment eachother so nicely. Rose and Lissa are the perfect best friend combination. Dimitri and Rose are just so….. cute. Forbidden and cute. Lissa and Christian are perfect together as well. There was a lot of growing with these characters even in this book alone. I love Rose and how sarcastic she is. Dimitri is just a BA and I love it.

Who Would I Be?:

I want to be Rose. I already have the sarcasm down, so no improvement needed there…. I wouldn’t want to be known as a slut though, so I’d have to throw that reputation out the window. But come on, who doesn’t want to have Dimitri be in love with you? Gah. So good. I like Dimitri. :)

#FridayReads (1)

#FridayReads is saying what you will be reading on Friday night (cause we’re losers) and over the weekend. Tonight I’m going to finish Fury (The Fury Trilogy #1) – Elizabeth Miles on the car ride to a Lego League competition for my brother. I am on page 290 of 370 so I should be able to finish this in the car tonight. After I finish that book I will proceed to read Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1) – Richelle Mead. I’ve heard so many wonderful things about the Vampire Academy series and I’m very excited to read it. My way of choosing books is by drawing a book title from my TBR reading jar. I can never decide which book I want to pick up, so I draw one of the titles out and read it no matter what. I always finish series and I always always finish a book. Even if I absolutely hate it, I will continue on. Continuing on, after I finish Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1) – Richelle Mead I will read Blue Moon (The Immortals #2) – Alyson Noël. I liked the first book (Evermore (The Immortals #1) – Alyson Noël) but it was very different. It was insta-love, which bothers me a lot. It’s so irritating to read and so….. almost forced I would say. Like I said, I draw from my TBR jar so then all my books get a fair chance…. I feel all guilty when I see all my unread books (over 100) sitting on my shelves staring at me…..
