This Week in Books #5

If I am currently reading multiple books, I will only put the one I read most recently during my day in each post to keep it condensed. In theses posts I will be talking about what I read then, now, and what I will read next!

THEN: I just finished Oleah Chronicles: Justice by Michelle Johnson, and I enjoyed it. I really loved the first one, and was looking forward to this one. I have to say that I liked the first one much more than this one. I am excited to read the third one in this series when it comes out because it ended in a cliff hanger! I wish we would have gotten more information on Zander, but I think that will happen in the next book. Cross your fingers!

NOW: I just started The Wakening by E. B. Dillon a few days ago and about 1/3 of the way through it. I hope to finish it in the next few days. It’s different than what I’ve read before, but it’s pretty intriguing. I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it. There are some unnecessary declarations of love, and some random typos in the book, but other than that it’s pretty good. There are two separate stories happening currently (at page 107) and it’s interesting because they’re just starting to tie together. I’m excited to see where the story takes me!

NEXT: The next book I’m picking up is Sword of Deaths (The Scythe Wielder’s Secret #2) by Christopher Mannino. I read the first one in March, and I enjoyed it. I am trying to work my way through my review books, so that’s why there are so many new books on this blog! You should definitely try this series, because it’s fun and interesting to read about. The ending of the first book ended somewhat abruptly, so I’m excited to start the second one soon.

What books have you enjoyed lately?

THEN: Looking for Alaska *review* is the book that I just finished. I read it for my young adult literature class, and I really enjoyed it. The characters were relatable and I loved reading something from John Green again. Alaska was very mysterious and it was fun to read about some mischievous teenagers. I loved all the pranks that they pulled; they were super fun to read about.

NOW: The Travelers is the book that I’m currently reading. I got this for review from NetGalley, and I am really not liking it. I will hopefully have a review up soon, but I just really don’t like it! It’s boring, and not what I was expecting. Like at all.

NEXT: Glass Sword is still in this position. I should have started this a while ago because I’m reading it for book club, but busyness and school have taken over all my free time lately, so it’s taken a back seat. I am still really looking forward to reading this book. I really enjoyed the first one of the series and can’t wait to see where the characters go next!

THEN: I just finished Lady Midnight yesterday and OMG IT WAS AMAZING! The review will be up on Friday! I loved all the characters, and the character development was perfection. I feel traumatized, but in a good way because of it. The ending was perfect for the situation in the book, but the situation was not ideal. I highly suggest reading anything by Cassandra Clare. So good.

NOW: Looking For Alaska is the book that I just started today, actually! Have to read it for my Young Adult Literature college class, and I’m 32 pages in right now. I like it, it’s not super great yet, but I’ve enjoyed what I read. I like Miles and Alaska is a pretty cool bad apple. I’m excited to see where the story goes. I’ve heard a lot of mixed feelings about this book, so…

NEXT: Glass Sword still takes this position. I’m really excited to read it, but I just haven’t gotten around to it. I loved the first book in this series, and I loved the novella that I read, so I don’t know why I’m so hesitant to read this! I promise I’ll start it soon.

What books are on your list of then, now, and next?

THEN: I recently finished School of Deaths by Christopher Mannino, and I really enjoyed it! Like I say all the time, I love when authors or publishers ask me to read their books. The main premise of this book is that a teenage girl gets thrown into a world of male Grim Reapers, and has to learn how to become a Death alongside them. She’s the first girl in centuries, and she has to figure out why things are working the way that they are. Its a very interesting book!

NOW: I am currently 37% of the way done with Lady Midnight on my iPad, and I’M LOVING IT! My goal is to have it finished by Sunday when I get to meet Cassandra Clare, but I’m also going to purchase the hardcover of the book when I get there. If you don’t know who Cassandra Clare is, get out from under that rock! Pick up one of her books, you won’t regret it! This book follows Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn and their adventures while living at the Los Angeles Institute. I don’t want to talk too much about these books because they’re all tied closely together, but the two teenagers are Shadowhunters, and Shadowhunters hunt demons in the Mundane world. I have been waiting for so long to read this book, and I’m so glad I finally have it!

NEXT: Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard is next up on my list! I’m reading it for book club with my friends, and cannot wait to continue on with the series! I really enjoyed the first book, and am very excited to start this one. I’ve read the first novella and not the second one, but I can’t wait to read that, too!
